Sir John Harington

THE
WEBSITE FOR
TOILET DESIGN

Sir John Harington, poet, author and inventor of the flush toilet.

At home, at the office, at bars, cafes and restaurants. In airports, in shopping centres and in the middle of nowhere. About 30 minutes of every day, and around 182 hours per year. We all have to go, wouldn’t it be better if it was a place you wanted to go? This is the first site dedicated to toilet room design, offering both inspiration and personal advice. We believe the world needs more beautiful toilets. The mission starts here!

The world needs more beautiful toilets

When you have to go, make it worth going

It’s a necessary part of everybody’s everyday life. Unavoidable. Shouldn’t going to the toilet, wherever it is, be a pleasure rather than just a necessity?

Arise, Sir John Harington

Let us honour Sir John Harington, an Elizabethan nobleman from the 16th century. The man responsible for one of the most important and influential discoveries from the last five hundred years. Make no mistake, the flush toilet was a game (toilet) changer in sanitation. It actually took a further 200 years before people began to realise the genius of his invention. And another 100 years before it really caught on. The industrial revolution hastened the toilet revolution. By the beginning of the twentieth century almost everybody in the western world was using a flush toilet.
